Purpose of the Business Course 

 

The main purpose of the business course is to prepare the student for writing the business report. Accordingly, the business course is an integrated and mandatory part of the Industrial PhD education.

 

The aim of the business course and the business report is to strengthen the Industrial PhD student’s insight into the creation of knowledge, leadership and business economic aspects of their research.

 

The Industrial PhD education demands practical knowledge, interdisciplinary skills and communication skills on behalf of the student. In addition to the traditional academic and methodological qualifications, the Industrial PhD student needs to practise skills in the following areas:

  • Cooperation with internal and external parties
  • Ability to communicate and make the project visible
  • Knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), contracts and valuation of research    

The Industrial PhD course has three partially overlapping objectives:

  • To give the Industrial PhD student practical tools to manage his or her research project in the intersection between company and university
  • To increase the Industrial PhD student's understanding of the commercial aspects of research and innovation in a private company
  • To introduce non-academic dissemination of research and the securing of IPR and patents to the Industrial PhD student

Three modules:

 

The business course consists of three modules:  

  • Project and Research Management
  • Commercialisation and Innovation
  • Research as a Personal Challenge in Social Network Relations

Module 2: May 14 - 15, 2012

Module 3: May 21 – 22, 2012

 

Exam: June 19, 2012

Payment

 

The course is paid by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation for Industrial PhD students who has a grant.

 

ECTS

 

The course and the business report counts 7.5 ECTS points.
